The only time I can ever remember being taught about finances was in middle school health class where we added up what a typical budget includes and what our salary would be on minimum wage, and after we subtracted those numbers, the point was made that this was why to not become a single mother. Then we graduated and learned the hard reality that having those degrees doesn't necessarily mean we get that amazing salary with them.
Then we try to apply for our first mortgage, but our loans are too high. So then you are by default stuck paying extraordinary rent prices that are much higher than a mortgage payment would be, that just keep going up.
